Final words of Hadrat Sa'd bin Rabee ؓ

How many of you have seen people feeling deeply concerned about others while passing away? A dying person either remembers his own regrets sorrowfully or remains in the serious pains of death.

However, the companions of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ were of a different level altogether. They were special friends for a special person ﷺ. One of those was Hadrat Sa'd bin Rabee ؓ who passed away in Uhud after getting struck by spears for 12 times, and around 70 times by arrows and sword in addition. Can you imagine his situation?

So on that day Prophet Muhammed ﷺ asked his companions as to who would bring the news of Sa'd bin Rabi ؓ , to which Hadrat Abi bin Ka'b ؓ responded and set off in his search. He found Hadrat Sa'ad bin Rabee ؓ severely hurt, lying on the ground among other martyrs.

Hadrat Abi bin Ka'b ؓ told Hadrat Sa'd ؓ that he was sent by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to know about him to which Hadrat Sa'd ؓ said these golden words which were recorded by Imam Maalik ؒ in his book al-Muwatta (2:465, 466):

فاذهب إليه فاقرأه مني السلام وأخبره أني قد طعنت اثنتي عشرة طعنة وأخبر قومك أنه لا عذر لهم عند الله إن قتل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وواحد منهم حي

_Translation: "Return to my Master ﷺ and offer him my Salaam. Tell him ﷺ that I've been struck by 12 spears, and tell the people (the companions) that if something happens to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and anyone among us still remains alive, then no excuse will be accepted from us in the divine court by the almighty."_

That was the love, care and concern for the well-being of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ by his companion ؓ, who was so heavily wounded that he had no chance of survival, and was martyred in Uhud.
