The Blessed 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah

The Blessed 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah

Dhulhijjah is the last (12th) month of the Islamic calendar, and in literal sense Dhul Hijjah means the month which has Hajj rituals in it.
The Blessed 10 Days of Dhul-Hijjah

Dhulhijjah is one of the sacred months in Islam.
Hadith of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ is recorded in Tirmidhi: “None of the good deeds are more superior than the ones done in the first ten days of Dhulhijjah.”
Also reported in Abu Dawood: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast in the first 9 days of Dhulhijjah, the day of Ashura and three days of each month – Ayyam al Beedh (13th, 14th, 15th of each Islamic month).

What should we do in Dhulhijjah?

1. Practice charity generously.
2. Offer Nafl prayers amply (Fard, Wajib & Sunnah supersede it in prioritization).
3. Perform good deeds – take care of poor, strengthen ties with relatives, etc.
4. Offer sacrifice on 10th, 11th or 12th Dhulhijjah (10th has the highest reward).
5. Observe fast from 1st to 9th Dhulhijjah – it is a Sunnah.
6. Offer Tahajjud prayers.
7. Spend ample time in Masjid and read Qur’an.
8. Offer Nafl prayers on the night before Eid.
9. Say Takbeerat al-Tashreeq from the Fajr of 9th to the Asr of 13th Dhul Hijjah.
Note: It is Wajib to recite Takeerat aloud on the said dates.
Islam is all about sacrifice. We need to sacrifice our time, money and energy for:

1. Educating ourselves and our family members about Islam.
2. We need to sacrifice our wealth for the cause of Islam.
3. Sayyiduna Ibraheem alaihissalam was ready to sacrifice for the love of Allah: himself (being placed in the fire), his wife and infant child in Makkah, his son again in Mina.
4. Our beloved Prophet ﷺ sacrificed what not? And the Sahaba ؓ migrated for Islam, risked their lives, wealth, and relations for Islam. Those days they reached as far as Mozambique in the south of Africa, China & India in the East - places so distant from Arabia, for Islamic propagation.
*Not to forget:*

Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan’s ؓ martyrdom falls on 18th of Dhulhijjah.
