What is Seerat?
Seerah means the biography of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Who was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)?
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), often referred to as the final messenger of Islam, was born in the year 570 in the city of Makkah, which is now part of present-day Saudi Arabia. His life is significant to Muslims around the world as he received revelations from Allah, compiled in the holy book of Islam called the Qur'an.
As a young man, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for his honesty, kindness, and wisdom. At the age of 40, he received his first revelation from Allah through the angel Gabriel (Jibraeel alaihissalam). This marked the beginning of his mission as a prophet and his message of monotheism, emphasizing the worship of one God - Allah.
How did the Makkans respond to the call toward Islam?
Despite facing opposition from the people of Makkah who resisted his teachings, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) continued to spread the message of Islam. Some people in Makkah accepted his message, while others were skeptical or hostile. As the number of Muslims grew, they faced persecution, leading some of them to migrate to the city of Madinah. This migration, known as the Hijra, marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
What happened in Madinah?
In Madinah, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) established a peaceful and just society, uniting the local tribes under the banner of Islam, and also gave people of other faiths the freedom to practice their own religion. He enacted laws and guided the community in matters of faith, ethics, and governance. The Muslims faced challenges from their opponents, especially the Makkans, but they persevered and built a strong community.
What was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) actually striving for?
Over the course of his life, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led various combats in self-defense against those who threatened the Muslim community. However, his primary focus was always on spreading the message of Islam and establishing peace. He emphasized the importance of kindness, compassion, and justice towards all people, regardless of their faith.
